It's the first of may, a day that always feels like the start of spring to me. I'm a bit late it seems, according to the Met Office the first day of spring is 1st of March, I have a reputation for turning up to things late, but did i really miss it by two months? Maybe next year I'll take the daffodils as my guide.
As well as the start of my spring it is also voting day. As you can see my polling station was just round the corner from a bush :)
There is something that feels very good about voting. I think I have only missed one chance to vote so far and that was due to being a teenager and not very co-ordinated with knowing which bit of the country I would be in on the day. There was a community feel this morning - the poling station had been moved and people were wandering around with cards asking each other for directions. The sun was out and it made me proud that where I live people were using their votes.
I don't normally do anything to try and put my view to people with the idea of influencing them but this time - in London at least - I felt I had to do something little. A small email went out to friend yesterday. I had to show how worried I was about Boris - and it wasn't about his health.
He has pleged to do a vast number of pointless or unrealistic things but for some reason the one the summed it up for me is this:
Boris has pledged to scrap the fourth plinth competition for Trafalgar Square. This great art commission has brought work to a fantastic public space by Alison Whiteread, Mark Quin and now possibly Tracy Emin, Anish Kapour or Bob and Roberta Smith.
What is Boris proposing permanently replaces this role call of great modern art?
answer: a big bronze model of a spitfire.
for me that says everything I needed to know about Boris.
So with a slight nervous feeling I cast my vote and now wait to see what everyone else thought.
